The Oxford Microscopy Course (OxMiC)

 

The next OxMiC will be an Essentials of Light Microscopy One Day Course covering the basics of microscopy on April 25th 2024.

 The course will cover the following subjects:

  • Basics of light microscopy
  • Understanding the microscope body and objectives
  • Principles of widefield microscopy
  • Principles of confocal laser scanning microscopy
  • Spinning Disc and light sheet microscopy
  • Experimental design and which microscope to choose
  • Sample preparation
  • Data storage, metadata, scientific reporting & acknowledgements 
  • Introduction to Image analysis, segmentation and co-localization

 

The short course is jointly presented by imaging facility managers of several of Oxford's light microscopy imaging facilities and meant to provide a basic theoretical background for the everyday microscopy demands in Oxford's biomedical research institutes.

Image analysis course

 

The contents of the course include the basics of image analysis, how to automatically segment and count objects (2D and 3D), how to do colocalization analysis, how to use machine learning for denoising and segmentation, and how to automate tasks with macros (and more).

 

This is a free four half-day course, open to everyone. The curse runs twice per term every term.
